Coach Andrea has been planning to create her team to provide education, encouragement, and energy but often gets stuck like everyone else! So, what did she do? She evaluated what was stopping her from progress, utilized her problem-solving skills, made some lists, and GOT MOVING!
So, without further adieu, here’s Coach Andrea’s TOP 10 ways to get started achieving your goals.
1. Remind yourself of the why behind your goal.
Something that can help you jump over the hurdle is remembering the why. Why is this something you want to achieve? Why is it important to you? Why do you want to make it happen? Anytime you feel lost, stuck, or unmotivated replace those feelings with the answers to your why’s and remember, your work is meaningful to yourself and others.
- Start before you’re ready.
Do you keep up with MarieforLeo? If yes, then you may be familiar with the catchphrase, “Start before you’re ready.” What it means is that fear shouldn’t hold you back from starting a project or a major life change. All the time spent trying to analyze or neutralize your fears only keeps you stuck and stalled with zero momentum. And let’s be real! As athletes, we especially crave momentum and movement. The only way to go is forward and the only time to act is now. Don’t wait for your idea to be 100% perfection and simply push yourself past any limiting beliefs to get started creating something meaningful and important to you.
- Find the time in the day where you shine and perform best.
Surprise! Not all of us love beginning our days at 5 a.m. Yet, there are some people who thrive at that hour. Get into a groove that works best for you and after a while, you’ll be able to pinpoint your prime productivity time frame that yields in accomplished tasks and positive results.
- Make your goals manageable.
Does the SMART acronym ring a bell? It’s often associated with goal setting. It stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Setting goals that are SMART can help you keep track of your overall progress. Make sure to be fair to yourself by being realistic with your timeline of particular tasks and creating a measurement plan that works best for your schedule.
- Make your goals a priority.
Speaking of timelines, you’re the one that’s in charge of the whole project so it happens on your time. Remember not to let time get away from you so fast, though. If there’s something you’ve been thinking about doing for a while and haven’t quite done it, what’s holding you back? If this project is important to you, put it first and make it happen.
- Do your research along the way.
Having concrete, up-to-date research can help you think outside of the box on ways to grow, improve, and finetune your goals and stay relevant. If you’re just getting started on a project, you may want to look into the average timeframe of project completion, project cost, and project materials, and use that as a benchmark when creating your goals.
- Take it one success, one obstacle at a time.
Believe it or not, achieving a goal is not a linear process. The process can go up and down, like a roller coaster. When you’re at the top, you feel on cloud nine, successful and unstoppable. On the contrary, when you’re closer to the bottom, you feel defeated and unhappy. As hard as it is, fight against that feeling of despair and remember this quote, “the comeback is always stronger than the setback.”
- Embrace fear.
Know that fears, though often frightening, are inevitable in the process. Instead of running from fear, run towards it, face it, and embrace it!
- Remain motivated throughout the process.
Do you need a daily reminder on your phone? Will listening to a particular song or podcast keep the creativity flowing? Think about what keeps the engine moving along the tracks; trains need fuel and you need something that fuels your fire, or engine too! Sometimes an app can help, writing in your daily calendar, or even something as simple as a bracelet can give you that cue to do!
- Make it a party and celebrate your successes.
Sure, you’re working around the clock to focus on you and your project, but that doesn’t mean you have to go into complete workaholic, isolation mode. Keep your support system in mind and informed! Let them know when you’ve completed one of your SMART goals and make it a point to unwind with them off the clock to celebrate.
