November 2020 All-Star Athlete: Arushi Rai October 30, 2020 By Andrea Tyndall What have been your major highlights/achievements in tennis? One of my major achievements in tennis was going to CIFs last year. My doubles partner and I made it to the quarterfinals of CIFs (we ended up losing to the state champs), and it was an awesome learning experience. It was my first year participating in an event like this with so many high skill level girls/teams from all over the county. This event helped me realize what I have to work on and prepare for the coming season, so I can have even bigger achievements:) Why did you first choose tennis? When I was younger, everyone knew me as the “soccer superstar.” I was the offensive striker for my competitive soccer team, and I had a lot of fun scoring and speeding past all the girls. When I was eight years-old, my dad introduced me to tennis, and I fell in love with it. Soon enough, I started taking lessons to continue developing my skill. I became heavily involved with the competitive side of tennis, as I constantly tried to beat my dad. Then when I moved to California in middle school, I quit soccer and started strictly focusing on tennis (no regrets!) What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? My favorite ice cream flavor is vanilla because it’s universal and it goes with everything. If you could time travel, where would you go?I would time travel to before the Scientific Revolution, so I could explain all of the technological advancements (cars, planes, telescopes, etc.) and scientific discoveries (laws of gravity, the planets revolve around the sun and not the earth, the earth isn’t flat, etc.) before they actually happened.
